BWS: An Amorphous Announcement

14th July 2017

Following our recently established digital communication channels on social media, we’re delighted to announce we’ve launched a digital Amorphous Core Transformer brochure that is now available to download.

The newly developed brochure includes a summary of the difference between conventional transformers and amorphous core transformers, in addition to highlighting the amorphous advantage and outlining the vast array of fittings and applications available that make our SO-LO amorphous core transformer range a truly bespoke solution for your HV problems.

Discover the only amorphous core transformer designed and manufactured in the UK. At BWS, we subject all our transformers to a high level of quality testing which has secured us many recognised awards and certifications including ISO 9001 Quality Management, BSI Registration, UL and being qualified by Achilles as well as holding the CE mark of excellence.

Explore the SOLO amorphous core transformer range and learn more about BWS by viewing the digital brochure: Amorphous Core Transformer Brochure

BWS manufactures two systems with the largest footprint of any amorphous transformer in its 19-year history

03rd July 2017

BWS Transformer

Established in 1998, we are a globally renowned transformer manufacturer based in Bromsgrove and are currently the only designer and manufacturer of amorphous core transformers in the UK. An amorphous core transformer will reduce the core losses by up to 75% when compared with conventional steel core transformers.

We manufacture ONAN, KHAN & AN amorphous core transformers from 100kVA to 3000kVA with incoming voltages up to 22,000 volts. We can also cater for incoming voltages of up to 38,000 volts using a laser cut core.

Recently, we commissioned and completed two of the largest amorphous core transformers we have built to date. The HV distribution transformers were combined with voltage optimisation technology to meet the client’s specific requirements. They are to be installed at a Healthcare company in Costa Rica, Central America.

The project comprised of building two 2,500kVA systems, each weighing an enormous 17.5 tonnes, which were crated up and transported to the docks at the end of May, ready to be shipped to Costa Rica. The two super low loss amorphous core transformers will replace the site’s current inefficient HV (High Voltage) transformers and reduce losses currently present within the HV infrastructure.

Both systems are integrated with variable voltage optimisation technology which will deliver a stable, cleansed, conditioned and optimised voltage on the facility’s LV (Low Voltage) side to further increase efficiencies, reduce the company’s annual energy consumption and contribute to CO2 emission reductions. This will provide the client with a 2-in1 solution to meet their energy efficiency goals without requiring the installation of any additional equipment or increasing their plant room footprint.

Due to the sheer size of the units, during their conception, they were referred to internally here at BWS as the ‘Big Green Monsters’.

We thoroughly enjoyed the challenge working on this project which marks a very proud moment in our 19-year history, and look forward to taking on similar projects in the future that allow us to deliver entirely tailored solutions to meet clients’ needs.
